Elbow
Medial/lateral epicondylitis (golfers and tennis elbow)
- Pain experienced on the inner or outer part of the elbow
- It is a repetitive use injury
- Common in sports however can be experienced with anyone
- Pain experienced with movements of the elbow and when gripping or twisting.
Wrist
Carpal tunnel syndrome
- Compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel
- Risk factors include, repetitive use, obesity, diabetes, pregnancy, trauma
- Usually starts with numbness and tingling over the thumb, index and ring fingers
- Hand may ‘fall asleep’, loss of grip strength, start dropping objects.Wrist sprain
- Stretching or tearing of the ligaments around the wrist
- Risk factors include, fall on an out stretched hand, jobs which involve lots of hand and wrist use, athletes
- Pain is usually localised to the wrist, swelling is common, very tender to touch
