Elbow

Medial/lateral epicondylitis (golfers and tennis elbow)

  • Pain experienced on the inner or outer part of the elbow
  • It is a repetitive use injury
  • Common in sports however can be experienced with anyone
  • Pain experienced with movements of the elbow and when gripping or twisting.

Wrist

Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Compression of the median nerve as it passes through the carpal tunnel
  • Risk factors include, repetitive use, obesity, diabetes, pregnancy, trauma
  • Usually starts with numbness and tingling over the thumb, index and ring fingers
  • Hand may ‘fall asleep’, loss of grip strength, start dropping objects.​Wrist sprain
    • Stretching or tearing of the ligaments around the wrist
    • Risk factors include, fall on an out stretched hand, jobs which involve lots of hand and wrist use, athletes
    • Pain is usually localised to the wrist, swelling is common, very tender to touch
